We’ve worked with many different sporting clubs over more than 15 years and it’s always fun and challenging. However, there’s a common pattern we’ve seen happen repeatedly, which unfortunately creates all sorts of technology-related problems later on. Have you seen this scenario?
- It’s the start of a new year or season, and a brand new committee has been formed. Everyone is really excited. 🥳
- Someone decides the current technology setup is a mess. They couldn’t find something, or they don’t like how it looks, so they decide they’re going to fix it. 🔧
- They register a new domain, or set up a new email system, or build a new website, or set up new social media accounts. They mean well, but they set some or all of these things via personal accounts – it’s easier to get all the confirmation emails etc. and confirm them this way. And usually, they don’t realise the work that’s gone into the tech setup “under the hood”. 🤔
- Then they leave the committee, sometimes on good terms, sometimes not. 🏃
- Later, an invoice for a new service goes to an inbox nobody else can see. It doesn’t get paid, so it lapses. The website goes down. The email stops working. People can no longer find things on Google. Nobody on the current committee knows what to do or who to call. 💥
