Community Campaign Toolkit

In January 2025, a small group of us launched a petition to get accessibility improvements installed at Ivanhoe Station in Melbourne. Lilly, a local student who is blind, couldn’t travel independently because the platforms had no tactile ground surface indicators, the raised dots that let people navigate a station safely on their own. Her family and mobility specialists had been raising it for years. Nothing had changed.

Over 5 months, more than 10,000 people signed, shared and pushed the campaign forward. Local MPs, council members, disability organisations and journalists got involved too, drawn in by a clear story and consistent updates rather than any direct approach from us. On 1 June 2025, TGSI was installed on both platforms at Ivanhoe Station.

That campaign showed what actually moves a local issue from a frustration to a result: a focused ask, a real story, consistent communication, and the discipline to close the loop once it’s won. This toolkit turns those lessons into practical resources for anyone running their own campaign.
