How easy your website is to update depends mostly on the platform it’s built on – and that’s one of the first things we discuss with new clients.
SaaS websites (Squarespace, Shopify & Wix)
SaaS websites are designed to be user-friendly. In most cases, you can edit pages directly and see changes instantly.
- Drag-and-drop functionality makes it simple to adjust layouts, text and images.
- Built-in page editors allow easy updates without technical skills.
- Free smartphone apps let you manage your website on the go.
Unlike a CMS, SaaS platforms handle all software updates, security patches and platform maintenance automatically – you only need to keep your content current. The trade-off is that you lease the website for as long as you keep paying for it.

CMS websites (such as WordPress)
CMS websites offer advanced customisation and multi-user capabilities. Everyday content updates on WordPress are easy, because the block editor lets you edit a page directly and publish it.
Other changes work differently:
- CMS platforms function like a filing cabinet, with content stored in different sections.
- Changes to menus, settings and plugins are made in the backend, which looks like a dashboard.
- CMS websites need ongoing maintenance to stay secure and functional.

Choosing the right level of access
A CMS website can be set up with different levels of access. Full administrator access covers settings, plugins and the structure of the site. Content-only access limits you to adding and changing content, which for many people means “I can’t break it” and brings peace of mind.
When we discuss your project, we look at how you will use the site day-to-day and recommend the platform and level of access that suit your workflow. The goal is a website you’ll feel comfortable updating yourself.
Training and support
If you would like training, we can run a paid session to walk you through updating your own website. Otherwise, we provide links to online guides so you can learn at your own pace.
